Beauty Product Reviews, Favourites, Giveaways and More!

Hi everyone,

Today I have a review for you of an absolutely gorgeous indie nail polish called Bluebelle, by Jody of SoFlaJo. Fair warning, this post is quite picture heavy!

I first became aware of SoFlaJo through a nail polish swapping group on Facebook, around the time her Year of the Dragon Collection (a stunning set of 8 colour changing topcoats) was released. Since then I have been lusting after many of her creations, though it is only recently that I have begun to dive into the indie polish world myself. And what an exciting place it is!

As I’m sure most of you already know, indie polishes have been exploding in popularity lately, and for good reason. There are so many talented indie polish makers out there, creating lovely and unique polishes that are highly sought after by lacquer heads everywhere. Jody’s polishes are no exception, and I am so excited to share my first (but certainly not last!) indie polish review with you.

If you have been hesitating to get into indie polishes, you may be interested to know that “All SoFlaJo polishes are made from natural pigments and glitters with bases free of the chemicals Toluene, Formaldehyde and Dibutyl Phthalate and Formaldehyde Resin. SoFlaJo Polishes use stainless steel mixing balls (and always have).” (quoted directly from the SoFlaJo website)

***In the interest of full disclosure, I must mention that this polish was sent to me for review, but all opinions are 100% honest and completely my own.***

The first thing I have to comment on is the adorable packaging that Jody uses, which is unlike any other indie in my (rapidly growing!) collection. When I received my polish, it was in this sheer black pouch filled with glitter!

Also included was a cute butterfly hair clip, for a fun added touch of colour.

I received a mini (5mL) bottle of Bluebelle to review, which retails for $5.00, but it is also available in full size (15mL) for $10.00.

This polish is part of SoFlaJo‘s 6 piece Spring Flowers Collection, which Jody describes on her website as “6 Lovely Shimmers, Glitters, and Frosts to Mix & Match Any Way You Want!”

I think they are all beautiful, and am especially pleased with the choice Jody made for me, because it is my personal favourite of the bunch!

Jody’s description of Bluebelle from SoFlaJo: “Bluebelle is an iridescent blue base with micro-glitter in pinks, purples and blues. Wear this one over black and you’ll see the shift as blue turns to pink!” You certainly can see the shift from blue to pink, especially over darker colours, and there is purple in there as well!

I wanted to try Bluebelle over a variety of shades, to see how it wears over different colours. Read on for some pretty polish pictures spam!

I think that layering Bluebelle over black, as Jody suggests, is my favourite way to wear it because you get to see the colour shift more dramatically. However, I do think it looks very pretty over lighter/brighter colours as well, in a subtler way. Application is smooth and easy, and overall, I really like this polish.

I will continue experimenting with layering combinations in the future, which is part of the fun of topcoats like this – they are so versatile! I bet Bluebelle would look amazing over top of a really deep purple or a dark royal or navy blue. The possibilities really are endless!

I highly recommend trying out some of Jody’s polishes, which are available both on her website or in her Etsy shop. If you would like to stay up to date on her latest collections, you can follow her on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Pinterest as well. She has just released a new collection called Life’s a Beach, the fourth in the SoFlaJo line.

Thanks again to Jody for letting me try out Bluebelle, and to everyone else, stay tuned for lots more indie polish reviews in the near future!

Thanks for the review! I own about 15 of Jody’s creations. She is very talented. When I went to her site I was overwhelmed with choice and ended up picking a bunch of minis just to allow me to sample a little of everything. My shipment came in a box that also had glitter and some hair clips. It is a lovely little touch that makes her stand out.

I didn’t realize she had released a new collection so I will need to check that out next month… when my no-buy is over. For now, the wish list will just have to grow a little longer. :)

    • Wow, that’s great!! Yes, Jody is very talented and all of her polishes are so pretty! :) I love her unique packaging too. Which ones are your favourites so far?
